Harassment Awareness Seminar Held at APWA Multan

Experts Emphasize the Need for Awareness to Protect Women’s Rights Multan (APWA News): All Pakistan Women Association (APWA) Multan organized an important seminar on “Harassment Awareness” at the APWA Center located at Nawan Shehr, Abdali Road. The aim of the seminar was to educate women and female students about their legal rights, the definition of harassment, and how to file complaints effectively. The chief guest, Madam Lubna Ali, Regional Advisor to the Ombudsperson Punjab (Lahore), addressed the attendees and said, “Harassment is a global issue that leads to discrimination against women. It is crucial for women and girls to be aware of their rights because protection is their basic right. A safe environment is essential for greater female participation in development.” She encouraged women to show courage and report any form of harassment without hesitation, while preserving any evidence, as the law provides for strict penalties and fines in such cases. She also emphasized strengthening character and learning the legal framework to stand confidently against harassment. Zehra Sajjad Zaidi, in her remarks, stressed the importance of empowering the younger generation. She said, “Girls should never see themselves as weak; they must exhibit courage and adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment.” Other notable speakers included Nazia Yasir, Mrs. Tehmina Munir, Tahira Najm, Dr. Shehla Aftab, and Nasreen Fareed, who highlighted the importance of active and impartial harassment committees in institutions and workplaces to ensure justice for victims. Muhammad Shahzaib Iqbal, Assistant Legal Officer at the Ombudsperson’s Office, explained the legal aspects of harassment cases. Shahid Asghar (Assistant Director), Abdul Rehman (Assistant), Faiza Khalid Rao (Deputy Director, Benazir Income Support Program), Mrs. Abida (Principal, APWA), Ms. Hania, and Ms. Samar were also present at the event, along with a large number of APWA students. At the end of the seminar, certificates were distributed among students who successfully completed courses in Driving, Beautician Training, and Computer Skills.
